TRIBUTE TO THE LATE HRH PRINCE DAWUDI GOLOOBA

From Emeritus Rev.Prince Kajumba Daniel

Rip Prince Golooba Dawudi

Today, we celebrate the life of an extraordinary individual, Prince Dawudi Golooba, whose passing leaves an unfillable void in our lives. I am honoured to have shared part of my childhood with him, as he was placed in the care of our uncle, Owek Lule, former (Omuwanika) Minister of Finance in the Buganda Kingdom.

Prince Golooba was a man of impeccable taste, with a brilliant sense of dress and humour that could light up any room. His love for family was unwavering, and his loyalty to the throne, friends, and community was unshakeable. The loss of loved ones, particularly family members, deeply affected him, but his resilience and strength inspired us all.

As a proud Muganda, Ugandan, nationalist, and patriot, Prince Golooba embodied the spirit of Pan-Africanism and internationalism. He proved that loving one’s heritage doesn’t preclude embracing others, and his presence was truly regal. As a true friend, he respected everyone, regardless of status, tribe, or nationality.

Prince Golooba’s commitment to his word often put him at odds with politicians, but his integrity remained intact. The abolishing of Buganda’s kingdom and the exile of his father took a profound toll on him, as it did on many of us. Nevertheless, he remained proud of his royal lineage and made us proud to be part of it.

As a brilliant banker and wise individual, Prince Golooba’s impatience with fools was legendary, but his love for his brothers, sisters, and extended family was boundless. He leaves behind beautiful, intelligent, and well-mannered children and grandchildren, who will undoubtedly carry on his legacy.

The royal family has lost a pillar, Buganda Kingdom has lost a star, Uganda has lost a true son of the soil, Africa has lost a shining light, and the world has lost a remarkable human being. We will remember and celebrate you always, Golooba, our beloved brother and true friend. You will be greatly missed.
